Artificial intelligence is already changing how travelers discover, research and choose travel. The next shift may be more consequential: allowing AI to move beyond recommendations and complete the booking itself.
New Phocuswright research across the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany and Japan finds a sizable segment of travelers is already willing to transact through AI. These “agentic travelers” are younger, highly engaged with AI and commercially
valuable, with travel spending that is generally on par with or higher than that of other travelers. They are also more comfortable trusting AI, sharing personal information and allowing technology to play a greater role in the purchase process.
The implications go well beyond AI visibility and search referrals. As AI platforms become more closely connected to travel inventory, booking and payment capabilities, companies will need to ensure they can convert AI-driven intent into transactions
without adding friction.
This white paper, produced by PhocusWire in partnership with WEX, examines who the agentic traveler is, how AI is influencing purchase decisions and what travel companies
must do to prepare for an emerging distribution channel.
